Official: Toronto FC terminates contract with 34-year-old Italian winger Insigne, the player scores 19 goals in 76 games
US League team Toronto FC announced that it has terminated its contract with 34-year-old Italian winger Insigne. Toronto official wrote: The club announced today that the club and Italian winger Insigne have reached an agreement on the early termination of his MLS contract, and the agreement will take effect immediately. Insigne will no longer occupy the team's designated player quota, and his original salary will no longer be included in the club's 2025 salary cap. The club has used one of two guaranteed contract buyout spots for Insigne. Toronto FC General Manager Hernandez said: "The club thanks Insigne for his efforts over the past three years. After many meaningful exchanges, we are pleased to find a solution that satisfies all parties. We wish him all the best in the future." Insigne, 34, joined Toronto FC as a designated player on January 8, 2022 and made his debut against Charlotte FC on July 23 of the same year. The Naples-born player, who represented the team in 76 games (66 starts) in various events such as the MLS, the Canadian Championship and the League Cup, scored 19 goals and contributed 18 assists.
