Biaowan: Thomas will join Villarreal soon, he has completed the physical examination & will sign a 1+1 contract

According to the London Evening Standard, former Arsenal midfielder Thomas is about to join Villarreal. Thomas, whose contract with Arsenal has expired at the end of June, is expected to sign a one-year contract with Villarreal, which also includes the option to extend the contract for 12 months.

Thomas has completed the physical examination and the transfer has entered the final stage. Arsenal will play a friendly match against Villarreal at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night. Even though Thomas was charged with five counts of rape and one sexual assault on July 4, he is still close to signing with Villarreal. He will appear in Westminster District Court on Tuesday.

The allegations involved three women who reported events between 2021 and 2022. Thomas denied the allegations, and his lawyer said Thomas welcomed "the opportunity to finally prove his innocence." Thomas was first arrested on suspicion of rape in July 2022, triggering an investigation by the London Police Department and the Crown Prosecutor's Office. During this period, he continued to play for Arsenal, and the club was still discussing a new contract with him at the time.

After Thomas was indicted, Arsenal issued a statement saying: "The player's contract ended on June 30. As legal proceedings are still in progress, the club cannot comment on the case."
